High above California lies the Sierra Nevada Mountains, the highest mountain range in the contiguous United States. One of America’s most geologically diverse climbing areas, the Owens Valley yields granite, basalt, and volcanic rock. Between farmlands to the east and mountains to the west, the Owens River winds its way through the high desert valley floor. The diverse selection of climbing areas in the region offers traditional climbing, sport climbing, and bouldering. Isolated alpine crags, glaciers, lake basins and hot springs are scattered throughout this magnificent scenic environment.
